Birthday, Dog, Dragon Age, Deathnote.

I know it has been a looong time since I wrote in here. Busy I guess... So what is new...

Alex turned two years old on Monday! W00T! He is growing up so fast it is almost scary. He got lots of toys (mostly with wheels)(gee I wonder why...). Rob and I got Alex a dog (Bowzer the beagle). Alex seems to really like Bowzer. Actually he gave Bowzer a great big hug today, so thats good. Alex is really starting to pick up words fast now! He is even starting to put two words together! YAY!

Xmas is coming, and soon we will put up the tree! Prolly Dec. 1st. I already have some decorations up but I cant wait to put up the tree! I would really like to get a couple of wreaths for the doors this year. Our first xmas in our new home... So exciting!

We got poor Bowzer fixed. He had a rough night that night. He seems to be back to his old self again now though, which is good.

Started a new video game (that is totally addicting.) Dragon Age Orgins. So much fun to play! Highly reccomended!

Started reading through a book series that I picked up in Feb. Its a Manga series (Japanese animated book series) called Deathnote. Very cool series. I picked up the first book in the Airport when we went to Edmonton and then got the next 3 books. then we ordered the boxed set online. Turns out that was cheaper then ordering the remaining books one by one... So now my Brother in Law has the books I got in the airport (and he seems to be enjoying them) and I am re-reading the boxed set. Such a great series...

I just found out that not only are there books, but also an animated series (much like Hikaru No Go)(Which is by the same artist) but also 2 live action Deathnote movies!! *GRIN* Totally getting those now... SWEET. Now I am excited. I hope they are as good as the books are... Most of the time that is not the case (Take Twilight for example. Or Legend of the Seeker. the TV series based off of the sword of truth series. Totally ruined it.) but I still have hope. AWESOME.

Where did it go?

Do you remember shopping store etiquette? Especially in regards to children? I do. I remember when parents used to keep their children in line and out of other peoples space when they went shopping. I was in Wholesale today with my son Alex and I was in the checkout line. Alex was already in a bad mood (He doesnt really care for shopping. especcially close to supper time) and some woman was behind me in line with a boy I judged to be around 10 or 11 years old. Alex is only 23 months old. This boy came right up to Alex (Who was seated in the cart) and started making faces at him from inches away from his face. Lets just say that Alex and I were both unimpressed. The mother softly said something like "come here", not that the child listened to his mother. And when he didnt listen she didnt do anything else. This child continued to follow us bugging Alex and I both until we were a couple meters away from the checkout and his mother, at which point she demanded that he come back to her. WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE?? I wish I would have said something to either the child or his mother. Something to her in regards to "Please keep your child in line. He is bothering us." and something to the child like "You know your mother called you over to her. I think you should listen to her." but I felt like to do so would be rude. Rude! Can you believe it?! When did things change? It used to be that the woman in question would feel embarassed and shamed and forcebly move her child back to her side. Or that at least the person being bothered would speak up, but now it seems like there is nothing wrong with letting your child(ren) run amok. I think from now on I will speak up to the parents of these children, rather then be driven crazy and have to rant not only to my husband, but on my blog.... AGH. I feel better now.

Excited!!!..... But then crushed

So I have been thinking for quite a while that our little Samus (Dog) needs a compainion dog. And I think Rob would prefer a puppy. I found a cute little puppy on the local SPCA website today and got all excited and called Rob, and then he got all excited! I called the SPCA and he was already spoken for. Not adopted yet, but spoken for... Dang. I left my name and number though, just in case the adoption should happen to fall through. I dont like how easily I get my hopes up, and how easy it is for them to be crushed... I think I will keep my eyes on the SPCA website though. If I check it often enough, one day we should get lucky. And what a great b-day gift a puppy would be for Alex! Alex loves Samus, and Samus loves Alex, and we love Samus too, but I think she gets lonely sometimes, and I think having a companion dog might be just what she needs to be happier.

Books Books Books.

A few books I have read recently:

The Twilight Series (Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, Breaking Dawn) by Stephenie Meyer:

These books are wonderful! My favorite books in the series are Twilight and Breaking Dawn. I bought Twilight around Xmas time last year and got so involved in the story I read it in a matter of days. I then went out and bought the second one which I also finished in days. Then the third and fourth ones. Also in days. I have re-read the series a few times already, and haven't fell out of love with the story or the characters yet. I was dissapointed in the movie though. Too much was changed.

The Mortal Instruments trilogy (City of bones, City of Ashes, City of Glass) by Cassandra Clare:

These books really pull you in. I could re-read this trilogy a few times a year I think. I bought City of Bones on a whim in a bookstore a while back, and I am sure glad I did. The plot of this trilogy is great and you really feel  like you know the characters in person. I leant the first book to my Mother in Law and she loved it. The one drawback to this trilogy is that I think these books are clearly geared towards girls.

My Boring Ass Life by Kevin Smith:

I wont deny that I think Kevin smith is a comic genius. From Clerks to Zack and Miri Make a Porno Kevin Smith has kept me lauging over and over again. I listen religiously to SModcast on my Ipod. I loved this book. Not only is it a diary of someone I greatly admire and respect, it also chronicles the making of one of my favorite movies "Catch and Release". I reccomend this book for anyone who enjoys Kevin Smith's movies or SModcast. If profanity offends you, this book is not for you.

Silent Bob Speaks by Kevin Smith:

Again, Kevin Smith made me ROTFLMAO. Excellent book. A hillarious collection of writings. I could prolly listen to KS all day long. Oh wait... I have. (when I first found out about SModcast I put ALL of the eppisodes up until that point on my Ipod and listened to all of them. For days. And nothing else. And Im telling you, it was worth it. I laughed sooo hard for soooo long. I recently put them ALL on my Ipod again to listen to them all again. Almost done. Cant wait for a new eppisode...

I have list of books that I will be reading. They will prolly take a a while...

TO READ:

Tigana by Guy Gavriel Kay:

I am already most of the way through this book, and I have to say that I love it. I have laughed. I have cried. and I cant wait to see what happens next. This book has some beautiful moments in it. You really fall in love with the characters and you want to help them in their quest. The plot is amazing. I cant wait to finish this book so I can re-read it again.

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy By J.R.R. Tolkien:

I have to confess that I am one of those people who hasnt read the LOTR trilogy yet. I have, however, seen the movies and loved them. I want to read the books to get the story the way Tolkien wrote it.

The Fionavar Tapestry by Guy Gavriel Kay:

Rob recommended this book to me (he also recommended Tigana) and I look forward to reading it. Since I am loving Tigana I am sure that I will also love The Fionavar Tapestry as well.

Lost time....

I seem to lose pieces of time when I find a game I really like. Rob and I used to spend hours playing Diablo II. Before we had Alex we would start in the morning on the weekend and realize sometime in the early afternnoon that we missed lunch. Later in the evening we would realize that we had missed supper, and in the wee hours of the morning we would finally find the time to sleep.

Lately I have been playing quite a bit of Oblivion (and loving it I might add), and losing even more of my spare time. I have played as many different classes of characters and beat the game a couple times, but the thrill of creating a new character keeps me coming back for more. We have the Shivering Isles expansion pack, and I cant get enough of playing in Sheogoraths realm. "Time for a celebration! Cheese for everyone! Wait. Cheese for no one. That can be just as much of a celebration if you don't like cheese. True?" -Sheogorath

I wonder what will happen to my spare time once Diablo III is released. I think I may be left with tiny scraps of free time. I may yet be able to salvage my free time, but I am not sure yet whether I really want to... I have seen some of the teasers for Diablo III and I must say I am very interested... Who could resist trying out a Zombie Wall??? Not I said the mouse. Not I. I think a Diablo III Lan party may be in order once it comes out...

Rants

I used to be so afraid to drive a standard car because of all of the extra things you have to do, but Rob and I have had a standard car for a while now and I must say: I hate automatic cars. With a standard you feel like you are an extention of the car. That you have an active role in your journey. When you drive an automatic car you feel almost like a passanger. Like you are along for the ride but not an active participant. I think Standard cars are more fun to drive as well...

People who drive slowly tick me off. The city I live in is full of elderly people (there is nothing wrong with being elderly, but there is something wrong with continuing to drive when you know you shouldn't anymore). I have witnessed countless close calls with the elderly at fault. They should be re-testing people who are over a certian age. Some might argue that this is descrimination, but when you look at the facts you notice that your reaction time, eyesight, and hearing get worse as you get older. Why not re-test everyone every few years? Maybe people would pay more attention to the rules of the road if this was the case. In any case, I strongly believe that the elderly people should be tested and re-tested every two years. I also believe that if your doctor has told you that you shouldn't be driving that your doctor should inform the police as well. That way if your doctor says you can't drive, the police will make damn sure that you won't.

Now what?

So... First post. Not much to say yet. My son is sleeping soundly. My dog is laying on the floor beside me. My hubby is at work. Feeling a little icky today. Listening to SModcast (Which is fantastic btw. Anyone who likes Kevin Smith will love this podcast. (If you are opposed to profanity, don't bother.)

I keep trying to think about what to get for my son for his birthday in November. I want to get something that he will love to play with. Something educational would be nice. I really want to get something that he will really smile over... I will have to think this over a bit longer.
